Happy 5 Months!

Dearest Elise,

This last Thursday you turned five months old! I know this is totally cliche, but you are getting so big!! We did not have to go to the doctor this month - which I am sure you would be happy about, if you understood - so I am not sure EXACTLY how much you weigh. According to our home scale though, you weigh almost eighteen pounds, and I swear you have grown at least an inch! You are still getting chubbier - you have the cutest little side rolls and buddha belly. I have to fend off friends who just want to eat your pudgy little arms and legs right up!

Alot has happend this month. You took your first long roadtrip - 500 miles! - to see your Popa, Nana, and Uncle Nathan for Thanksgiving, and you slept almost the whole way. While we were there you got to meet Grandmother Betty and Pop-pop Joe and make friends with their great-granddaugheter Kennedy. You experienced CoLd - it snowed just a little while we were there!

You sat in front of the fire with Uncle Nathan, and you were entraced by the flames. You played so hard in your jumper that you were just worn out! We said our goodbyes and headed home, and again, you slept almost the whole way! What a good baby!

Love,
Mommy

Happy 4 Months!

Dearest Elise,

Today, you are four months old. So much has happened in the past month - you have grown so much! You now weigh 15 pounds, 14 ounces and are 25 and a half inches tall!

You are becoming more beautiful everyday! Your smile is so radiant and your laugh just warms me from the top of my head to the tip of my toes. You love it when mommy and daddy "sneak" neck sugars, it makes you giggle and squeal with delight, which in turn makes us laugh! We love you so much and thank God he blessed us with you!

Three weeks ago you discovered your toes, and that you could actually reach them! Since then I have been amazed they have not yet found their way into your mouth, like your hands, toys, pretty much anything else that fits! Anytime you are on your back you are reaching for them. You have discovered that they will help you roll on your side. If we put a toy off to the side those little legs are helping you roll towards it! The other day you rotated 180 degrees trying to get that toy! You want it so bad.

You have a new love and fascination: faces. You love to look at them, and now you love to touch them. Anything that has two eyes and a mouth captivates your attention. It is so cute to watch you as you explore those faces, how they look and feel.

Tummy time has become more bearable. You love to watch your mobile on your tummy and lay in your bed and talk to your stuffed friends. Just last week you reached out and grabbed your giraffe... to stick him in your mouth!

I knew from the start that you had a lot to say, and that one day you will make all our ears tired. When Nana calls and we put her on speaker phone you always look around for her. I think you have finally figured out her voice is coming from that little black phone, because you are trying to get it and hold it. Anytime you see it you want it. I hate to imagine your cell bill later in life!

We have begun taking walks together outside when the weather is nice. All the leaves are turning colors. This is our favorite tree - so beautiful! I do not know if you notice the different colors, but you like being outside and jabber to yourself and me as we stroll.

Something new that your daddy and I have recently discovered is that you love being covered up when you sleep. Whether you are in your crib, the swing, or your car seat, you prefer to have your little face covered to sleep. I find it amusing, as do many of our friends. You still love being swaddled, and sleep best when so...

We went to visit the pumpkin patch to take some pictures with our good friends before Halloween. Jonah had a great time! He loved sitting in, feeling, and eating the hay. The pumpkins were a new feel, and he made friends with them. He enjoyed himself alot! You on the other hand....

You thought the pumpkin patch was for the birds! You already have such a strong personality, and gladly showed part of it that day. How dare we make you sit in your chair with this ugly orange thing in your lap. You were highly unimpressed, and we did not even get one little smile from you. But man, you were cute as a button!

This month has had lots of great stuff in it! But it has had it's downs too. This month you got your first cold. We visited the doctor this afternoon, and discovered you have ear infections in both ears! You have been stuffed up and feeling down-right miserable for the past 3-4 days. My poor baby! Your little nose is red, and you pull at your ears. We have raised one end of your bed in hopes that it would help you sleep better. You have been terribly grumpy, and practically attached to me. And when you aren't you are unhappy. You just want to cuddle, and it is frustrating for me - it seems I can't get anything done. Sleep is a thing of the past (again! It is like when you first came), and I just can't seem to make you better. You sleep in your swing best, so it is the fall-back.

I pray you get better soon!

Love,

~Mommy

It's been awhile...

Well, life has once again gotten exceptionally busy for us. Bill's job is going well. He has recently been assigned a difficult project and issued a 1 month deadline to solve this problem 10 years in the making. Elise and I spent a week in Amarillo visiting Poppa, Nana, Uncle Nathan, and alot of other friends. We had a great time!! I will post some of those pictures soon. For now you will have to deal with some older ones. I love this dress she is in! (Thanks Lauren and Ryan!)

The Thing that lives outside her window...

Recently (the past month or so) I have noticed much more of our surrounding wildlife on the micro level. We have many lizards that live in our yard, such as this one:

We also have alot of butterflies that are attracted to the flowers in one of the flowerbeds. The mosquitos are unfortunately abundant. All of these things, I can live with. It's the spiders that get me. I hate spiders. Especially this one:

This particular spider has migrated from in front of our kitchen window (where it left 4 - count them: 1, 2, 3, 4!! - egg sacs the size of a LARGE grape) to in front of Elise's bedroom window. This sucker is huge!!

Egg Sacs

The pictures really do no justice; she is approxiamately 6 inches behind my thumb to give you an idea. Her body is about the size of a peanut shell. BIG. And did I mention I hate spiders? My rocking chair sits right in front of that window, and when I get up with Elise in the middle of the night it gives me the heebie-jeebies. At least I can see it is still OUTSIDE in the day. Bill looked it up, it is a Black and Yellow Argiope. Like I care what it is... It's alive!

Oh well, on to more pleasant things.

Today I have a baby shower to attend for one of my floor-mates from the good old days of LU. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again. This is the first time most of them will have seen my sweet little girl.

One of Bill's old stuffed animals is a frog puppet. She and Bill both enjoy playing with it.

"Oh no!! It's Mr. Froggy!!!"

"Don't lick me Mr. Froggy!"

Her eyes are changing colors... not sure to what yet though. Such rosy cheeks too!

Profile view really shows her cute CHUBBY cheeks off!

Tomorrow I will post some of the MANY new videos we have. I was looking at pictures earlier today from when she first came home through to the present and comparing. She has already grown so much!
